6 New TTC Stations Open Dec 17, 2017 – FREE Transit All Day! Announced just a month before by then-CEO Andy Byford, the brand new Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station is set to open on Sunday December 17th, 2017 to all of the GTA. The brand new extension of Line 1 will allow commuters to access the Vaughan corridor with greater ease, as the VMC experiences major growth in the coming years. Leading up to Sunday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a special appearance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday December 15, 2017 for the major announcement.
Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, along with John Tory, Mayor of Toronto and Josh Colle, TTC Chair, were at Sheppard West TTC station this morning to announce people can ride the entire TTC network for free in celebration of the subway extension opening on Sunday December 17th, 2017.
As part of the system wide updates, all subway cars have updated their maps to include the 6 new stops on the north-west part of the city.
We look forward to seeing and hearing how the station openings directly impact the commuter experience, growth of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre community, and development of the area.
